Activity: 3-Rune Reading
Tonight, I cast a three Rune reading, my first reading with the new Runeset, which I have been carrying on my person since creating them.
The question I asked was “What do I need to know that would help move me forward right now?”
1. Rune far left: Norn Urd; the past- past actions & situations that relate to the question you asked:
Inguz / Ingwaz – (NG: Ing, the earth god.) Seed potential, male fertility, gestation, internal growth. Common virtues, common sense, simple strengths, family love, caring, human warmth, the home. Rest stage, a time of relief, of no anxiety. A time when all loose strings are tied and you are free to move in a new direction. Listen to yourself.
2. Rune middle: Norn Skuld; the present- what is influencing you right now.
Wunjo (W or V: Joy.) Joy, comfort, pleasure. Fellowship, harmony, prosperity. Ecstasy, glory, spiritual reward, but also the possibility of going “over the top,” being impractically enthusiastic. If restrained, the meaning is general success and recognition of worth.
3. Rune far right: Norn Verdandi; the future – what will likely happen to answer your question
Wyrd/Odin’s Rune – Many traditionalists prefer not to use this Rune. I use it because it captures some profound meanings: Destiny. The Unknown. The fertility of Emptiness. Infinite Possibilities. “Wyrd, the Blank Rune,” as Dr. Nikki explains, ” is a message to look to the inner self. The blankness of this rune is actually a invitation to go deep within. For, the forces that are moving unseen in the background are forces you have put into effect. The forces represent the culmination of your life’s actions to that very moment. One of Wyrd’s messages is that the emptiness that is the blank slate at the beginning of our lives is filled by our own actions. These actions accumulate over time creating an energy flow that is carried with us as we move on our life’s path. It is on the small decisions we make moment by moment that we create our future. Wyrd is reminding you that life is a clean slate, ready to write your future on.
Odin was the Norse God of Gods. Odin taught the oghram. Odin hung from the tree of knowledge and obtained the runes of knowledge. Odin in his capriciousness and changeability challenges you to reach the untold heights his rune represents. If you ignore the call to move forward into the blankness with hope and faith in your heart, you ignore the call to personal greatness. Not the greatness of fame and fortune (although it could be, but normally not so), but the greatness of one who knows themselves. The greatness of the dignity and grace that comes with self-wisdom are available, you just need reach for them.”
This reading is a very positive one. With Inguz in the past actions Norn Urd position, I am being reminded of what brought me to where I now am. I was driven by masculine vitality, which led me to plant many seeds of personal development and work cultivating the people around me and being of service. As a result of that, I have reached a place of moving from the immature adolescent I once was to a more mature man; the seed of Inguz has grown to maturity in me, although I must be humble and recognize I still have much to learn. Inguz challenges me to stay the course I am on, while challenging myself to make the changes I need to make to grow. This I have done and continue to do, and as a result, I have found myself in a more fulfilling place than ever before. My magical path is in order, my friendship and relationships are in order, my family life is in order, and I am walking a meaningful educational and professional path as a social worker, doing meaningful work of service.
As a result, I have been increasingly feel grateful, joyful, and content with my life just as it is. It is, thus, very appropriate that Wunjo, the Rune of Joy, appears in the Norn Skuld present position. This Rune is telling me that my present is a state of joy, comfort, pleasure. I feel greater fellowship with my colleagues and friends than ever before, which manifests as making new friends and building rapport with the people around me, as I did today. This alignment of my spiritual life with my professional and educational life in a spirit of integrity and harmonized ideals is manifesting as spiritual rewards and a deep serenity and contentment. At the same time, Wunjo reminds me not to be cautious not to become complacent or to lose sight of the work that needs to be done out of a feeling of contentment. This is appropriate as there is an assignment I should attend to that I have been feeling so content that I have not putting it off. Wunjo gently urges me to attend to this obligation and Inguz invites me to take action and plant the seeds of change in this direction to stay my course and fulfill the work I have before me to do. This seems wise and appropriate advice.
What will be the result if I continue on this way? The Odin or Wyrd Rune appears in the Norn Verdandi future position. The Odin Rune tells me that although the future is unknown and I have my own destiny ahead of me, the future is still rich with possibilities and emptiness from which to manifest the fabric of my life and actions. Odin invites me to tune in deeply, to go deeply within, and harmonize myself with the forces I have been setting in motion over the course of my life to bring me to the present steps I now walk on my path. The Wyrd Rune invites me to march forward into the unknown with faith, hope, and courage, to trust the Way before me. That, I intend to do, moment by moment, and one step at a time.
Update: The morning after drawing this Ingwaz Rune, in a fun synchronicity, I saw this in a bus booth:
The light grey forms Ingwaz and the dark grey forms Gebo.
Together, they form a bindrune that makes a very appropriate logo for a sports competition, as was the case here!
